SYNOPSIS |

JEAN RENOIR (1894 - 1979)
Jean Renoir, son of Impressionist painter-Auguste Renoir, was wounded in World War I. While recuperating he discovered he discovered cinema. His 'Grand Illusion' and 'The Rules of the Game' are often cited as the greatest films ever made. During the Nazi occupation of France, he escaaped to Hollywood and made the Oscar nominated 'The Southerner'. During the making of 'The River' in India, he met and inspired Satyajit Ray. His other great works include 'Toni', 'The Human Beast' and 'French Cancan'. Renoir is seen by many as the greatest of all French filmmakers in history.
THE HUMAN BEAST
Lantier, who lusts after Severine - the wife of his co-worker Roubaud, witnesses him murdering Grandmorin in a jealous rage for seducing Severine. He keeps quite even when an innocent man is framed. Disgusted by her husbands' act, Severine has an affair with Lantier and asks him to kill her husband. What she does not know is that Lantier, in fits of rage, turns into a pathological killer. Renoir achieves the neight of poetic realism in this adaptation Emile Zola's classic work.
LOST LULLABIES
6 out of 10 child domestic workers are trafficked, abused, ill-treated and over worked. Some as young as seven. Only a few are rescued. 'Lost Lullabies' traces the journey of one such girl whose poverty stricken rural family sells her for a few hundred rupees. Will she be one of those rescued? |
